    You might be able to set-up a joint savings account which allows for external transfers. That way I don't think you're financially linked (but I'm not very sure on that).
    I thought it seemed quite awkward too, not quite sure if it was actually the land lord or the letting agents who said it.
    They said it would just be an account that does transfers and doesn't have a card etc so that might be what they were meaning. Will try and look into it. Thanks.

    OP, I don't know about the overdraft bit, but purely on the choice of Natwest vs Santander alone I'd go with Natwest. I have had a current account with Natwest for around 15 years and never ever had a single problem with them, whereas horror stories abound about Santander.
