What to do with old videos?
Hi, slightly odd question but...I'm clearing out all my old video collection. I have about 50 videos, all in good condition. I asked at my local charity shop and they said they won't take them, only DVDs. It seems such a shame to stick them all in the bin. I wondered if anyone knew a charity that might be interested in taking videos?...otherwise they're going in the skip.

Unfortunately I never did find anyone that would take them so mine all went to landfill. I'm afraid mine went in the 'brittle plastic' bin at the tip (don't know if that is recycled!) I saw a charity shop in town yesterday selling videos but can't remember which- sorry.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

I'd second the Freecycle / Freegle suggestion: I have seen some interesting 'art' made from old video tapes!
So failing that, local schools and colleges art depts, perhaps secondary rather than primary because there might be 'elf and safety' issues with long bits of tape a strangulation hazard (or temptation ...)Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
The last lot we had went to the charity video tape shop in Brighton. It was at the top of London Road.0

I've been looking for somewhere that will take them too, came across this site in my search - some original ideas for recycling I thought.

If you have any Disney videos in your collection, I found they still sold on Ebay. (Mostly grandparents building up a collection for their grandchildren).
My school show videos at breakfast club. We always welcome new films. You could try local schools if you have suitable PG or U categories!
I used old DVD cases to make calendars at school. You could try offering them on Freecycle for art projects.
Good luck!0 -
Cancer Reserch stil sell them. I bought a player for the kids, that and an old tv came up to £10 and now the kids can get 4 films a week for only £1.0
