Hi, I've got my lump sum - 130k - in an ordinary account with HSBC and want to know where to put it so that I earn some interest and easy access.

If it's in a single name put no more than £85,000 in one account and the rest elsewhere in order to protect it.
Use a site like Moneyfacts or Monetextra to find out where the best interest rates are.
Watch out for terms and conditions like bonuses that disappear and withdrawal limitations or penalties.
If you are not likely to need all of the money soon, consider fixed rate/term bonds which pay much better interest.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.
