how do i make scallops?

when i was a kid we often had pototo slices thinly and deep fried to make a scallop type chip... anyway thing have moved on an deep fat fryer no longer exsists.

how can i make them without one? if i cut the potato into think slices and oven with oil will they come out any good or will they be like roast potatoes?

I am pregnant and really fancy some!

    I do this with left over new potatoes... Just slice and fry them in a little butter and oil! You could do that with larger potatoes
    Putting these winter preps here so I don't forget! 

    Curtain pole installed in the living room
    Paint curtain pole
    Window quilts for landing window & french door
    Add shrink film to the kitchen door & insulate
    Insulate front door
    Bubble wrap windows & french door
    Wash front door curtain
    Blind for the bathroom
    Find wrist warmers & the wool socks!
    Wash heated throws
    Wash duvet & wool blankets
    Buy vest tops to go under clothes and PJs
    Buy nets for bathroom and kitchen
    Buy or make blind for kitchen
  • i use a smallish wok - for deep frying stuff - works a treat
    saving money by growing my own - much of which gets drunk
    made loads last year :beer:

    You should only eat phantom (shellfish) scallops if you only have a phantom pregnancy!
    Just looked them up on Google,now i think i am pregnant!

    no ours used to be like chips. no batter or anything. all the recipes i have found are about soaking in milk? i dont think ours were like that

    might try frying in a wok that should work thanks

    Slice then to about 1/2 cm thick,dust them in flour & shallow fry in oil,then just before serving,add some butter & baste them till golden.That's how my mom used to do them.

    We used to buy 2 or 3 "scallops" from our chippy.........with our chips,fluffy soft batter but we never knew if there was anything else inside!........they were about 5 old pence each,

    ohhh scollops! I'd forgotten about them they are slices [rings] of potato dipped in batter then deep fried. Our chippy used to sell them and my mum used to make them.

    And a large scoop of batter crackling for free on the top....thems were the days.

    thanks these are different scallops just potatoes. like chips but different
