I applied for a current account with Lloyds TSB and was expecting an immediate yes or no but instead got we'll be in touch within 7 days. I already have a current account elsewhere so I'm not in any rush. Is this a normal response?

Yup, it's not instant i'm afraid.
You will get the letter and it will then be:
1) Straight accept with the possibility of needing to show ID in a branch if your ID could not verified electronically.
2) If you applied for the Gold/Platinum/Premier account this may not be available to you due to Credit Scoring and if this was the case you may be offered the Classic or Silver Account and if that fails the Cash Account - You would then be asked what you would like do.
3) Total decline for no accounts but this is very rare!David
£1 of debt is too much for me!0 -
One thing I forgot to mention, I chose no when asked did I want an overdraft. As my existing current account haven't offered me an OD facility I do want one. Will this be something I can apply for online or a visit your branch sort of option?0

I had to wait the 7 days as an existing customer when I opened up my 2nd and 3rd vantage accounts. It is not instant, and had to send verified ID with the second, and what appeared with the 3rd account although I called them up to say that it would be the same as the 2nd account applied a couple of weeks before for. They accepted that ;-)
The OD can be applied for online, just have it on the main first account though. The other 2 I plan to use as savers / for personal spending outside the main one used for bills etc after the incentive saver drops it's rate next May time.0 -
Interesting, both my classic vantage accounts opened instantly, and LTSB doesn't have any ID from me, but despite being the owned by the same group halifax took 7 days to open and then wanted address proof, for which I gave my lloyds bank statement :huh:0
