Flights to Fort myers, florida

Is it possible to fly direct to Fort Myers in Florida? If not has anyone any experience / recommendation on getting to this area of the USA?

We have visited the USA once previously flying direct to Miami and then drove across. We are hoping to try and cut down on the drive time to our destination on Sanibel Island??

It is useful to google for their airport website to see if they list the details, and they do under non stop cities http://www.flylcpa.com/rsw/flightinfo/nonstop_db.php have a browse

There are no direct flights to Fort Myers from UK. Best but most expensive is AA LHR via Miami or LGW to Tampa with BA and Drive down.

We have flown to Fort Myers on Continental via Newark from Birmingham.

I am sure you will love Sanibel Island. We have been there twice and expect to return later in the year.

I've just come back from a week in Fort Myers / Cape Coral and I can confirm that there are currently no direct flights from the UK - also, depending on which airport you are flying in from, the flight time CAN be fairly long, due to a long stopover at the US hub that you are arriving at (on the other hand, you may be lucky).

Here's an idea that may be of some use to you.

If the stopover time is long coming over, fly into Miami and drive over, but if you can get a much more time friendly return flight, then fly back from Fort Myers.
With an openjaw ticket and no chrge for one way car hire in Florida, it could be a real winning option.

When we flew back, we had to be up at 07.00 to do the drive to Miami to catch our flight home - if I had planned things better, we could have taken the 16.45 flight from Fort Myers and enjoyed the best part of an extra days free holiday.

    e.g
Mon 19th Feb Man dep 11.55, Arr Miami 20.59 1 stop
Mon 26th Feb. Fort Myers dep 16.18, arr Man 09.25 1 stop
price £352.60 incl tax . There are lots of other time price options available as well.

or even better f you're going from London
    Tues 06.02.07, leave LHR 09.45, arr Miami 14.30 direct (BA/AA) 9hr 45 min
    Tues 13.02.06, leave RSW 06.15 pm, Arr LHR 09.50 am 1 stop (BA/AA) 10hr 35 min
    £348.30 incl tax.

I hope that I've given you some ideas.

Thanks, thats exactly the type of info i was looking for. Not sure how it will effect the car hire price but worth a look anyway.

    Hi Beefster

the great thing is that in Florida (& California) there is no extra charge for a one way rental. If you would like a link to a very good car hire firm, just shout.

p.s. depending on the time of year AA can be VERY competitive. Also, the AAdvantage card racks up airmiles VERY quickly.

here you go beefster. I found them to be very competitive of large / luxury cars, but less so for smaller/economy cars.
