Wintersports Cover

We have holiday insurance for the family as part of our LloydTSB account. We are going skiing in few weeks time and I am told that I can add wintersports cover for £50 to cover the family for a year. Due it being GCSE year next year we will not use this again, so if I were to take out a (cheaper) week long single trip insurance striped of luxuries like cancellations and baggage could I be covered by both? - one for the actual travel and one for any accidents that may occur.

Seeing as the Post Office 1-trip wintersports for a family (Europe only, up to 9 days) is £80, and you will already be paying for your "free" basic holiday insurance from Lloyds, I would spend the £50 for your trip!

By the way, family 12months European with wintersports is only £95 from the Post Office.

If you are covered by two seperate travel insurance policies and then try to claim you might come across a problem as both companies are likely to say that the other should pay out and you may find it difficult to get anyone to pay.
  • No that's wrong - if you have duplicate cover, you are entitled to choose which policy you make your claim on, whilst declaring the existence of the other cover - it is up to the insurers to discuss any sharing arrangements but they can't refuse to deal with a claim on the basis that another cover exists (except only in the case of items more specifically insured, like say diamond rings mentioned by name on a dedicated policy).

We have just returned (undamaged) from a wintersports holiday in Europe - took out very comprehensive ski cover with Travelplan Direct for just £42 for 1 week for family of 4 - check out https://www.travelplandirectinsurance.com - with two persons declared for asthmas at no extra charge.

Not sure about the LloydsTSB cover, but generally buying direct will give you better and more comprehensive cover than 'add-ons' through bank account - you should never accept travel cover through your holiday company or travel agent unless you want to pay through the nose for it.
