Its not all his fault I had written one of his cheques out to pay back me money he owed me over a few months

So you mean it's your fault? You do realise that only he can use his cheque book...

    Thanks for all your replyies
Its not all his fault I had written one of his cheques out to pay back me money he owed me over a few months but made it out to the credit card company he told me just to add it up but didn't realise how much it was as he was away and had checked his balance before he left. But its funny how the bank did not stop that cheque as it was made out to there own card company. I would have rather him paid me back than the bank. In normal cases they would just stop a cheque! Definitely going to be monitoring the situation in the future.

Okay so it's his and yours fault. You should really make sure he pays back the bank before he pays you back. Also, you are going to end up in serious trouble writing cheques from other people's accounts. Did he even sign the cheque, or did you forge this?

He has been very lucky they have given him the option to pay back interest free. You should be praising the bank for being supportive when they are not at fault.

Still don't understand how you can go £3000 overdrawn unless you and your son were trying to do some kind of scam?

Could anyone give me some advice. My son has an overdraft limit of £400 pounds, he checked his balance and thought he had sufficients funds in to to allow for some large payments but forgot a couple of cheues had not cleared. The bank let him go overdrawn to a sum off nearly £3,000. What are his rights as we cannot believe that they did not stop cheques etc and allowed this to happen........They are allowing to pay the money back interest free over a certain length of time but at the moment we feel the payments are to high and he will get himself into more dept

    Thank you

Forget 'a couple of cheques' that took him £2600 over his limit.

    There's forgetful and there's carelessness.

It is either his fault or your fault.

Why would you think it's the banks fault.

Your way of thinking is rubbing off on your son.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Sounds to me like the bank have been very understanding.

If he feels the repayments are too high he needs to call them and ask very nicely.

If you wrote out a cheque from your son's chequebook and forged his signature that is fraud and it is a criminal offence.

Guy's you are reading this all the wrong way....Its not fraud or a scam , I just wanted to know if you thought how the bank acted was wrong....if you have got an overdraft limited I would have thought that the banks stopped you from going over hence that is why it was there ie they might let one amount go through but not more and then they normally put the block on and stop cheques etc. I have friends with there kids and the bank would stop a cheque or card for going a couple of pounds over. .....
