Ford focus boot problem - repair costs?

Stupid boot doesn't open properly anymore, you have to lift it and when you let go it slams shut again. Pretty dangerous for little fingers, so am going to have to get repaired pronto, but am skint at the moment.

Can anyone give me an idea of how much this is going to cost me? :(

Thanks.

  • Keep a stick of wood in the boot to keep it propped open until you can afford a proper repair.

It is the hydraulic rams on the sides that have failed. You can buy them for £10-£20 a piece from a scrapyard and they take 5 minutes to fit so even if you don't want to DIY (they are really easy to do - pop out a metal clip and pull) then a garage is only likely to charge a minimal fee.
  • Just so you know what you are looking for, this is them.

This is just to show you what they look like, but I would do as Hammyman suggested and go to a breakers where you can test out the dampers before fitting them.
There are loads of used ones available on ebay but you might get one that's just as bad as the one you already have.
  • Would that be the same for an estate boot? Sorry, I should have said that in my first post. :o

Estate ones are different to the hatchback, make sure you get the right ones.

Never associate with idiots on their own level, because, being an intelligent man, you'll try to deal with them on their level - and on their level they'll beat you every time.

Being hated by idiots is the price you pay for not being one of them.
