How much does it cost to have gas installed into a house that has never had a gas supply?

2 main costs - the supply to the house and the work involved inside the house laying pipes etc. The work has to be done by qualified persons.
The first depends how far you are from the main gas pipeline, can be £hundreds or £thousands - impossible to give a figure.
The second depends where your boiler is situated in the house and if you want a gas cooker or gas fire as well - normally a few hundred.
Sorry to be vague but it is really a 'how long is a piece of string' question.0 -
My experience is that Transo make the numbers up as they go along.
I asked for a quote to provide gas to my last house and it came back at £1200 because the estate was all-electric and gas needed to be brought from another street. After discussing with Transco, I contacted my neighbours to gauge their interest in having gas as more new customers should reduce the ciost. I eventually sent 6 requests for quote to Transco. Some weeks later, my quote came back at £170 so I sent the cheque by return. My neighbours didn't receive their quotes until some weeks later and these varied from £170 to £1,500. Oddly, my nearest neighbour wanted a pipeline positioning about 7 metres away from mine and was quoted £1,250.
The upshot was that only I had the work done and for £170. There were holes everywhere when I came home from work (where Transco were routing the gas pipe)! I used the gas just for a coal-effect gas fire and spent about £20 per year on gas.

As already noted, there is no fixed amount as it depends on how far you are from the main supply pipe.
We paid £190 for the gas to be brought from our street to the house - including the meter. They 'moled' it under our driveway using a robotic device, which was great as there was no trench to dig. The total length they moled was about 15 metres.
We had this done when we moved in, but our neighbours had it done when the pipe was originally laid in the road and the price was nearer £2000. Apparently they start by charging a very high fee until the cost is recouped and then it drops to a low fee - which may explain the differences in price in the post above.
Don't forget that you will also need to find the cost of a new boiler/fires, cooker or whatever else you are planning to use the gas for.0
