Replacing speaker on laptop

About 4 months ago I purchased a refurbished laptop from Dixons and the left hand speaker has now gone. You do get a 12 month warranty with it but Ive heard that the laptop has to be taken to bits to have the speaker replaced and that it could cause more damage than good.
I don't really use the speaker apart from maybe looking at you tube etc and for the spec and the price of the laptop I would not be able get one for the price that I paid. If I watch films etc I hook the HDMI up to the tv and the sound comes through the tv.
Just wondering if it can cause problems being replaced as if it does then I may just purchase some external USB speakers for if I need to listen to music.
Thanks in advance.

if it is under warranty just get it fixed - if they damage it while working on it then they will fix that too!
it's just taking it to bits, shouldn't cause any problems if who ever is working on it is carefulThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Not the worst thing to fix on most modern laptops. Laptops are not standard, but they are a lot better than they were. I would hope it just a case of removing the keyboard, undo the screws both underneath, and under the keyboard possibly to remove the top plastics. Most speakers and the plug/socket are then usually accessible.
However I have to stress that, this very much depends on the laptop manufacturer.0 -
Search the make and model in youtube and there may well be a video showing you how to take it apart and possibly even replace the speaker.I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!0 -
Warranty - this is what it's there for !!! I'd never repair a lappy for someone if it's under warranty, send it back and get it sorted.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Thanks guys.I just know what Dixons are like and they will probably take it to bits and disturb something else but I think I will give it a go as if they do mess it up then it will go back in again.
The laptop in question was an Acer Timeline 4820T.0 -

You shouldn't notice any difference if they know their !!!! from their elbow. Its only a case of whipping the base off.0
