    Update.
I gave up on WestBrom and went for Derbyshire. I've exchanged several emails and in all of them they deny catagorically that they accept FPs.
However they confirmed what sort code they use, and UKPayments definately list that sort code as accepting FPS.

    I believe:
    1) staff do not really understand FPS and how it works
    2) their internal training/manuals simply tell them "we have not yet implemented FPS" so that's what they repeat
    3) in a sense they are right - you cannot transfer money via FPs from your bank account directly into your DBS account
    4) but you can (I believe) use FPs into DBS's bank account (the sort code they use) from where it is allocated (next day) into your personal account (which of course is exactly the same process as a BACS transfer)

Once the account is open I'll test and let you know!

    Email quote:
    "
I can't really comment on 'UK payments'. All I can repeat is that the Derbyshire Building Society do not use Faster Payments. Your bank/building society will allow you to make a transfer if they use Faster Payments, but it will take 3-4 working days to reach us.
    Kind Regards

Well payments I have made from my bank account to my Netsaver, appear the next day and are shown as FP Bank Credit.

Update - I have to share this.

    1) Derbyshire BS clearly DO accept FPs. I have made a test transfer and a) it appeared in my DBS account the next working day, but was dated the same day as it was sent from Natest, and b) it was shown as "FP Bank Credit".

Seems pretty conculsive to me..... but not apparently to DBS! Email exchange follows:

Unfortunately we do not use Faster Payments. We are hoping to have this available by the end of the year. Therfore any transfer will be by BACS or CHAPS
    Kind Regards

    Dear Ms xxxxxx,
    I am confused.
You have confirmed your sort code is 57-00-55
UKPayments, who administer BACS/Faster Payments etc, state for this sort code:
"Faster Payments can be sent to this sort code.
Bacs Credit payments can be sent to this sort code.
Bacs Direct Debits cannot be set up on this sort code.
CHAPS Payments cannot be sent to this sort code.
Not eligible for Cheque & Credit Clearing."
Are you telling me seriously that UKPayments do not know what they can/cannot do?
    Yours sincerely

    Dear Ms xxxxx,
Now that I have opened a netsaver account I thought I would let you know that the manuals and/or training Derbyshire BS is providing are wrong.
    You DO accept Faster Payments.
I made a £1.00 test transfer, sent from my Nat West account on 23/9/11. Logging on to my netsaver today, I see that my account with you was credited with £1.00 on 23/9/11 - same day. The description in my netsaver account is "FP Bank Credit".
As I suspected, you clearly do ACCEPT Faster Payments, though Derbyshire BS has not yet implemented Faster Payments OUTBOUND.
Perhaps you could ensure your management and/or colleagues? It would be helpful for both current and prospective customers to know this. It would also greatly help Derbyshire BS. I myself was tempted to open an account with one of your competitors but only went with yourselves because of my belief that you were misinforming me.
    Regards and best wishes,

Thank you for contacting the Derbyshire building society
As my colleague is rightly informed you , Derbyshire building society does not subscribe to faster payments. Other banks or building society that are transferring money into us that subscribe to faster payments , may get it to us sooner but there is no guarantee that the payment will be in before 3-4 working days, it may, but there is no guarantee.
    Many thanks
