HI,
MY car broke down last week(suspension problem..could not put into gears) as I had AA breakdown cover so AA took my car to mercedes service centre. I have been told by service manager that clutch slave cyliner and cluch needs to be replaced due to contamination and it is going to cost me £1383. I agreed for repair cost and mercedes ordered part and it took 5 days to get parts and fix it properly. I got a phone call that car is ready and I went to mercedes service center to pick my car. Payment of £1383 has been made but when I started the engine I noticed that engine sign was litting which was telling me that there was something wrong. I thought there is no engine oil in the engine and I spoke to service manager about that and my car has been taken again to repair room to check whats wrong with it. After 10 minutes service manager told me that there is problem with O2 sensor and needs to be replaced. I told service manager that when car had been brought to service centre there was no problem with its engine and I am not happy with the fact that car been brought into for repair and you did not even check properly whether every thing is ok. Manager told me that car has not been driven anywhere so they do not know anything about this fault, problem must have been there before but I am 100% sure there was not such a problem before. I rang AA to confirm milage of the car when car had been brought into service station which was 5 miles less than what I could see on the speedometer. It means car had been driven 5 miles since It was at service station. I spoke to manager about this and she confirmed that car had been taken on test drive after it was fixed.
so O2 sensor has been changed and I have been charged another £268 (including service/labour) which I really did not want to pay.
My question is ....(if anyone could please tell me whether I have been ripped off or not)
1) shoud have I been charged for that O2 sensor which I believed was ok when car had been brought in.
2) Should have I been charged labour /service charge twice( not spare part cost) when it was clearly their mistake that if problem was already there they should have fixed it in one go.
Thanks
Regards

  • Some garages will test drive the car after fitting certain parts to make sure they work ok.They haven't broken your O2 sensor by driving it, they can just fail on their own.
Plus I wouldn't expect an O2 sensor to be anywhere near the gearbox as they are in the exhaust, so not something they are likely to have damaged doing the work.
  • Hello friend...Thanks for the reply... Everything was fine till last night. I brought car home from mercedes last night but this morning again same problem..could not select gear..warning says transmission problem.. Visit workshop. I noticed lot of thick fluid underneath the car... Could be engine or gear box fluid... Rang AA and Mercedes again ..car has been taken to mercedes again. I am worried about ending in paying lot of money again which I believe I should not pay as it is the same problem as it was last was.
What are your suggestions friends ???

This Merc dealer doesnt sound very good...presumably they are main/franchised dealers? how old is the car?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • It is 2002 plate.. Mercedes c180 kompressor semi automatic.. I don't know what to do.. Mercedes should fix it without charging me anything.

    hi,
I went to mercedes and spoke to service manager about oil leak and tried to find out what made the oil leak but she denied any knowledgeof the oil leak and accused me of lying. I clearly showed AA guy that there was a thick fluid underneath the car but the service manager told me that AA guy told mercedes that there was no trail of oil but my logic was why would you find a trail when all the oil was leaked overnight. Service manager was not ready to accept that there was any oil leak and told me the oil could be from another vehicle.(as I forgot to mention when car was taken to mercedes earlier there was no oil leak but on the invoice it was printed that customer complains of oil leak but infact I never complained about an oil leak and when I approached the service manager about it she replied that AA guy told them there was an oil leak..I rang AA ..AA confirmed that their job is only to pick and drop the vehicle and can not make any statements like this.)
ok..fine...I came back home and got a call from mercedes to say the vehicle will be ready tomorrow as they r going to change hydraulic pump in gear box and they r not going to charge me directly but my AA cover will cover the cost of £500. I'm not happy about there decision as as I still feel I'm being charged again. I eventaully picked my car up and started to drive home I noticed my engine was steaming so I pulled over and opened up the bonet only to find they had left the fuse box cover (outer cover to drain rain water off) off and it was melted and stuck all over my engine. I cant believe how careless they have been and what a poor service they have provided. I'm going back to merecdes tomorrow any advice as I feel like i've been over charged, messed around and now there have damaged my car ?????

I'd try speaking (or preferably writing) to customer services
    00800 9777 7777
    customerservice.uk@cac.mercedes-benz.com
See what they have to say about the matter.
