contract breaking

I have recently switched my dual gas and electricity supply from British gas to Eon as it was cheaper online. I have now been sent a bill for 60 pounds as I have broken my contract. I heard Martin Lewis on GMTV say this should not happen. I am not sure what I should do now. Can anybody help, I have until the 16th Sept when they have told me they will collect the money via my direct debit.

You really need to look at your terms and conditions of the contract, if it says so in there, then you have to pay it, you will have signed to agree to it when you took the contract out.
    no mater what ML says.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Did you leave due to the price increase? Did you tell British gas of your intention to do so? If not then you will be charged the exit fees.
The process for not being charged exit fees is now clearly defined and what Martin says on TV, or your understanding of it will not be relevant if the process was not followed.
