iPad repair. Advice needed.

Having replaced the screen on a couple of mobiles recently I am now being asked to do the same with an iPad. Never having owned one I don't even know where to start, so I've looked at a few videos and at what parts are for sale and got a general idea. Some further explanation would be appreciated if anyone is familiar with these.
The iPad is functioning and the LCD (?) screen can be viewed. The touch sensor pad seems to be working as well and the fault only seems to be major cracks in the glass cover.
Is it possible to replace only the glass or is the touch sensor bit attached to this and they come as a package?
If I buy the parts, are there different sizes or specifications out there I need to be aware of to make sure I get the right one?
Any hints or tips of things to look out for if I try to fix it?
Any good sources for the parts?
What tools will be required?

No Apple store near to them as far as I can tell.0 -
Another question on this.
How can the user tell if it's an iPad 3G or Wifi (or are there others)? They are not technically very savvy!0 -
It's whatever it said it was in the shop when they bought it. The 3G ones are about £100 more so it's hard not to notice. How can the user tell if it's an iPad 3G or Wifi (or are there others)? They are not technically very savvy!
3G ones have a slot for a sim card, and a black plastic bit on the back at the top to let the signal pass through the metal case, Wifi ones do not.
Also it might be an iPad 1, or and iPad 2 - you might need different parts depending which it is. I assume it's an iPad 1, as an iPad 2 would still be under warranty and Apple might fix it for free. This page has pictures of both, so you can work out which it is, iPad 2 on top, iPad 1 below: http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/38825/ipad-2-vs-ipad-tablets0 -
It was received as a present so the user is not aware of what was said in the shop or the price.Humphrey10 wrote: »

Have a look on google for a website called iFixit will show you if the parts are available separately or whether they come as a pair and also a step by step guide on how they come apart (Think of it like a haynes manual for gadgets!)0
