  • Next time EA calls, tell them to speak with your solicitors and not you. This is what you are paying them for. EA should know better. Do not sign/do anything unless advised by your solicitors.

    Personally I would not be prepared to sign anything until the final search had been received and checked by you and your solicitor.

    Yes, I would trust my solicitor not to exchange unless and until everything was in order, but you just don't know what the search will reveal and whether it will have an impact on the contract paperwork - in the (probably unlikely) event that it does impact on the paperwork, it will need to be re-issued and re-signed. That could mean two sets of paperwork floating around at the same time, which is a risk I wouldn't want to take.

    So long as you are in a position to sign the contract paperwork as soon as everything is resolved, that will suffice. Reassure the EA that you are ready to sign paperwork as soon as the final search comes back - assuming all is clear - and your solicitor advises you to do so.
