Toyota Hiace power output

If you have a regular load of 800 kg you will prefer the 120 bhp. It will be a touch more to insure, but fuel costs etc will be very similar on either engine.0

The 120bhp one may actually be better on fuel. It will have more power and torque so you can change
up the gears sooner.
Changing up too early can actually use more fuel.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Isn't changing up sooner the same as changing up early?0 -
too early is before the engine is ready. The higher output engine will be ready for the change sooner....Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0

I'd always opt for the higher output, but what's the difference between the two.
As far as i can recall all Hiace Diesels use the smaller Hilux engine of 2.5 litres so it'll run forever and trouble free assuming it gets regularly serviced, but 95hp seems very low for a 2.5, is it NA?, if so it's likely to be painfully slow on the open road, but arguably more tractable in town, able to lug to stall speed without problem.
On the subject of servicing Toyota have never gone down the road of silly 20k servicing intervals, probably just one of the many reasons their vehicles have a deserved reputation for long trouble free lives, the Hiace should have the recommended interval of 9k.0 -
Thanks for the replies.
The following van is for sale http://vans.autotrader.co.uk/stock-item-id/at8ab0b11b31b3e0040131bece41ea0142/advert
It's the particular model I'm looking for which is not readily available.
One of the pictures jogged my memory that this van was sold at auction in Manchester in July. The auction description said one stamp in the service book. I queried this with the current seller and they provided copies of all of the service dates which are as follows:
9/3/09 @11765 miles,
25/6/09@22971 miles
14/11/09@33089 miles
4/3/10 @42285 miles
26/4/10@50796 miles
16/07/10 @61026
16/11/10 @70600
The first four services were done a couple of thousand miles late. The servicing garage has emailed a screenshot of the digital service record.
It was registered by a main agent in Cumbria as a demonstrator in September 2008 and sold on in January 2009. It was then serviced by a main dealer in Yorkshire up to 50k miles and then In 'n' Out for the last two. It was then sold by auction to the current seller, a van centre in Scotland.
I'm concerned that it's "been around" alot for a three year old van, the servicing being late and the contradictory service history from the auction house and current seller, as mentioned above.
In consideration of the afore-mentioned, would you buy this van?
Thanks in advance.0 -
If it runs and drives well, is as good in the flesh and underneath as it looks in the pics then yes, does the vehicle feel like an 84k miler, or is everything loose and the pedal rubbers taped up shreds?
Don't be too concerned about stamps in the book (which may have been the only info the auction had), so long as there's a proper record from a ''reputable'' garage of services then that to me is a better service history than book stamps, does the service history you've received stand up to scrutiny?
I've seen ads on a certain auction site for clean service books which will be stamped up to suit your needs.
From the record it's overdue for a service now, so unless they are doing it get it done pronto.
Vans can stand a lot of neglect, my plumber mates transit covered the last 4 years without a service of any description, whilst he was doing some work for me serviced the poor thing cos i felt so sorry for it, my mate can't believe how quiet the engine is now....0 -
Thanks. Considering I'm in Ireland does anyone know of a reputable company to carry out an inspection? A recent Which? survey showed the main providers of such a service falling short.0
