one of my 16 year olds has quit college after the first 2 days
he lives in a flat on his own and already gets HB and he is on DLA also. would he be entitled to any other benefits?
dont want any arguments over how stupid he is being, cos i know and i've told him what i think of him
also made him an appointment to see his connextions worker on monday, but have a feeling he wont listen to them either, he seems to have developed a very bad attitude of late

Leaving college after 2 days isn't necessarily the problem; college isn't for everybody. The problem comes if he has no drive to do anything either.0

Sorry I don't know about benefits. Well done for helping him.
Every teenage parents nightmare.
Good luck.

I think the tax credits you claim for him will stop as he is no longer in education.0

probably housing benefit and council tax benefit, pretty sure he will be able to claim as [brain fog here] he is emancipated ...........hope that's right..............and get job seekers allowance. Do not worry as he will not be left destitute.0

College isnt for everyone,
Stop telling him what you think of him, you obviously think he is stupid, how do you think that makes him feel.
Instead of putting him down, encourage him to find something he is interested in.
I was livid when my son flunked his GCSEs, nver got to college and here we are twenty five years later and he
is in the upper tax bracket, so see what he wants to do, he's your son, you want the best for him, that's obvious,
help him to get it, his way..........make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
if he already lives on his own and gets dla is he too sick to work?i`m not sure what the rules are on esa youth, sorry
if i have a criticism it would be to ask why a 16 year old on dla is living in his own flat?0 -
It's true, college isn't for everyone. He should now just get a job instead.DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

Why would you criticise .... socks asked a financial question - not your opinion on WHY her boys are in their own flat. If you're megga curious go and search her previous threads - but until then try not to be too judgemental
Sorry socks, nothing to add to the benefits query0 -
Well I believe he can claim either JSA with the disability premium or he can claim ESA on youth rules (this would mean it would be like contrabution based and not income based even though he hasn't worked enough as he isn't old enough).I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0

thanks everyone for all replies, just because he receives dla dosent mean he cant live by himself if that is what he wishes. to be truthful, him and his twin brother didnt get along living at home, and the fights were very physical between them, and i was attacked also, which is why they are both in supported housing
having spoken to son tonight, it seems he has changed his mind on the course he wants to do, and has an appointment with his support worker to discuss another course
he isnt too sick to work, tho he would need a lot of supervision, i will see what happens on monday then discuss going to the job centre with himloves to knit and crochet for others0
