Financial Advisors - Ballymena Area (endowment claim)

Can anyone help please ........ I am in the process of claiming that my Endowment was mis-sold, but the problem is I do not have the address of the Financial Advisor who I spoke to 9yrs ago. The chances are, it is no longer there, but the company was George Millar Partnership in Ballymena. I have tried yell.com, google and the phone book, but can't find them. I take it if they are no longer in business, i have no claim or can I still claim against the company who he advised me to go to i.e. Allied Dunbar (now Zurich).

  • The George Millar Partnership premises is now another estate agents, Homes Independent. They are nothing to do with the other lot, they just use the same premises, but maybe if you gave them a ring, the office manager in there might have some sort of forwarding address?

I don't think the fact that they are no longer in business prevents you from claiming. I think George Millar himself was prosecuted over some sort of fraud.....
  • George Millar Partnership is no longer in business in Ballymena.

Do you have a name of the financial advisor whom you dealt with, it might be easier to try and track them down that way as many of the IFA'a are still working in Ballymena, but have moved round various companies.

  • I don't have the person's name anymore, as it was 9yrs ago. I can't see me getting a response if I send it to the people now occupying the premises. If they do forward it on, he will probably ignore it.
The letter template on the Which? site tells you to address your claim to the Financial Advisor. I if I can't trace him, can I send the letter to the company he advised me to go to (Allied Dunbar/Zurich).
  • I will move this post across to the mortgages board to see if you can get some more specific help..

Allied Dunbar did not make their products available to independents and operated only a tied sales force.

So, your complaint goes to Dunbar (now Zurich).

Sorry if I wasn't clear, but I didn't mean to actually write to the new occupiers of the premises, just that they might have some idea of where the previous occupier could be contacted.

Also, would the financial advisors name not be somewhere on your paperwork?

It doesnt matter who or where they are now. Allied Dunbar was a tied salesforce. The complaint goes to the central address.

  • Yes Dunbar had a tied sales force, but there were still many IFA sales. Chances are if you complain to Zurich they'll refer you to the IFA.

I did it a bit of Googling and you are right, they did sell through the IFA market as well. Although it was small fry compared to their own salesforce.

Sending a copy to Zurich seems the best option. You can also ask Zurich if it was a tied agent or IFA that sold the policy. If tied, the complaint goes to them. If IFA, you can ask them the name and address of the servicing IFA. Whilst that may still mean you cannot claim against that company, it may help you track down to see if they still exist.

There is no George Millar appearing on the FSA register under company name or individual either currently regulated or regulated in the past (under FSA authorisation).

What was the commencement date of the policy?
