Cheap rail Chritchurch (Dorset) to Edinburgh

Hi chaps- so cofused about all the booking sites out there, we're going to Edinburgh in Oct. and I wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction for cheap rail fares (we get S/C discount) ... many thanks Roger

Someone has already mentioned Redspottedhanky ?

  • Flexibility is the key, normally if you sacrifice flexibility for restrictive tickets it normally works out cheaper. So if you can travel on certain specific dates it will work out cheaper.

If you gives us some more info ie, your preferred travel dates and the number of passengers and any railcards that you might have, I'm sure somebody on the forum will get back with cheap options.

One tip, if you have no tesco clubcard vouchers to use on Redspottedhanky then book via East Coast Trains as you will get a 10% online discount on their Advance singles.

Thank you so much 'livingthedream' - we are 2 seniors, we'll be travelling early December and are totally flexible about dates (weekdays or weekends, it doesn't matter) - we do have some tesco vouchers but thanks to anyone able to add anything further ... Roger
  • Ok, when you decide on what dates to travel on, keep an eye on the East Coast website, right hand side of the page 'Book now for travel' when your dates become available buy then or use the East Coast ticket alert to email you when the cheap advance singles are released. IMHO this will be the cheapest way but if you travel via East Coast it will mean going via London but the cross London Underground will be paid for.

Best to buy sooner than later and don't leave it to the last minute.

As your seniors it might be cost effective to buy some Senior Railcards especially if you plan to use the train again in the future. This weblink will give you a 10% discount on the price, I'll leave you to do the maths to see if it is worth it.
