i use the packet yeast in my panosonic and it works fine though when i first used the machine i had to slightly adapt the recipe as it didnt come out right the first attempt.i find though with the packet yeast if i dont make a loaf for a little while the next loaf doesnt seem to rise as good so i make sure now it is properly sealed

Hi ,every one,I used the recipe that came with the machine

    Large Loaf
    1tsp yeast
    500gm flour
    1 tblsp sugar
    1 oz butter1i/2 tbspmilk powder
    11/2tsp salt 350ml water

To measure I used the measures that came with it,fresh flour ,the yeast came from an un opened tin but yes it was out of date although unopened ,could that be it ,cant believe this I have waited ages for this machine and I fail at my first attempt, thanks for helping need to get to the bottom of it ....thanks...

This is the recipe I use for a lrg loaf in my panni, in the manual it does say to use fast acting yeast I use Tesco's own sachets, as the tin ( can't remember what make) didn't specify it was fast acting .Also you need to put the yeast into the bread tin first then add the other dry ingedients, then butter and finally the liquid

My BM recommends dried yeast but I use fresh yeast now (as its free in Asda as well as other supermarkets).
I have found it works ok straight from the freezer or from the fridge.

I use about 2/3 a teaspoons worth but its always a guess so doesnt seem to need to be accurate. I put some of the water and some of the sugar out of the recipe together and mash the yeast about a bit into it til it sort of dissolves. And then chuck it in with everything else.

    Good luck!

My OH loves the panasonic loaves I make and they always turn out well. Use the packet fast action dried yeast - that's what the instructions say and it works so why use anything else.

You can use oil instead of butter and you can skip the milk powder as well.

I use digital scales set on grams. When measuring the oil or water it's 15g for the oil and 350g for the water - ie grams = mls

  • I've seen mentioned a few times that supermarkets give out free fresh yeast. Do you just ask for it at the bakery section? How does it differ from the dried yeast - apart from being free (somehow supermarkets and free don't seem natural partners!) - is it better? Sorry to go slightly off topic but I am sooooo curious.

    it's better cos it's free!

and in my experience, they always give a huge lump...just be prepared for the cashier to look very confused and ask " What is this??"...lol makes me laugh every time!!

yes, just ask at the bakery, but be warned, sainsburys sometimes weigh and charge...tesco an asda are always free!

re fresh yeast. Yes you just go up te bakery section and saay "excuse me can I have some frech yeast". you expect them to look at you like you're barmy but they just go "ok" and go and get it.
Asda always give me a lump about the saze of half a fag packet and it make a good 8 loaves

ellie - first of all, well done on your successful loaf :T :T :T re: the paddle, I know some people who take the paddle out *after* all the kneading processes are through to avoid having the paddle get stuck or the hole that is left even when the paddle doesn't get stuck.

Alternatively, .... :shhh: don't clean too fastiously around your spindle and paddle :silenced: :rotfl: :o
