CANCELLING my BT contract...

Hi,
I'm an international student and signed up to a 18 month BT Home Phone AND Broadband contract around 11 months ago.
I did this as I was expecting to stay in the UK but now I'm leaving next month.
Surely I can cancel my contract without paying the remainder of the contract (or a ludicrous cancellation fee)??? As expected I called and was told no!
The forums say usually the only way to get out is if you a move to somewhere where a phone line/broadband isn't available. If so, surely this is true as BT don't provide where I'm going
Yes I can cancel my direct debit and just leave, but I don't want issues with credit if I were to come back to the UK.
Any solutions?
Thank You

Why would you expect to be able to cancel without fulfilling your side of the contract? You agreed to pay the entire cost when you signed or agreed, or the cancellation fee.0 -
Those 2 words say it all really.Surely I can cancel my contract without paying the remainder of the contract (or a ludicrous cancellation fee)??? As expected I called and was told no!
I just hope you've not been studying contract law.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

If so, you've just failed your practical assignment.:D
And no, going where a phone line isn't available does not void your contract-which was agreed for your current location. No free lunch, and no free laptop

You could have paid a considerably higher installation fee for a 'temporary' service if you had enquired. This would provide for service for as little as a week, but at much greater cost. If it makes you feel any better, it probably would have worked out the same cost wise after you settle up.0
