Insurance for youth Rugby

Hi
DS just taking up Rugby, aged 15. Been advised to buy insurance in case of injury/accident. Complete novices with this and don't know anyone at the club to ask.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
Many thanks

Son does not really need Personal Accident as he has no outgoings, bills etc.

Norwich Union (now Aviva) used to do a policy which covered the parents more should a child be hospitalised, ie for loss of wages for taking unpaid time off, accommodation near ther hospital, can't think of the name of the contract, and can't be sure it's still available.

My daugher has a PA policy tagged on to my husbands insurance, so if, say she broke her leg playing netball (now a risky sport) she'd get paid out, but the money was intended for the parents for loss of earnings, accommodation - that was with CICA, as hubby has been with them for many years, unsure if this policy is still available now.
(and I hate the CICA sales people with a vengeance!!).

Similarly, if you have private medical covering all the family - there may also be an element of cover built into the wording.

But an injury where there is no liability elsewhere that leaves him with lifelong care needs and no income would be rather unfortunate. So there is a need.

Can't speek for the quality of suitability of the policy (payouts look low), but there is this:

Personally I'd see a local insurance broker face to face for this one.

Agree opinions4u, but insurers are very slow to pick up on the possible needs for a child, should there be long term disability, and rating the childs future "worth" is even harder.

Perhaps a Capital Benefits, Permanent Disablement policy is what is needed.

Life is so full of what ifs.

Thanks to all who replied. It seems a strange one as you say. If he was to sustain a bad injury and need lifelong care (heaven forbid!) then we need the cover. Where to go as they mainly seem to offer cover for the adult as you say, not the child.
I may get onto the Rugby Association - there must be one...?
  • I would contact the RFU. This is the relevant page on their website:
