Disability and Heating Oil

Please can anyone tell me if someone is in receipt of Disability benefit, are they also entitled to reduced costs for heating oil?
Thanks in advance for reading this.

  • sorry I don't know the answer (I suspect its a no) but; I have heard of villages & communites buying oil together so getting a discount as it all arrives in one delivery. The cost must be horrific now.

What do you mean by disability benefit.
For the most severely disabled (and those with young children) disabled people may be eligable for help with heating, from some suppliers.
Similarly, with insulation, which may reduce the need for heating.

My partner is on full Disability benefit. We live in a very remote area though and there is only one fuel company that will deliver heating oil to us.

Do you mean disability living allowance?
Or Employment and support allowance, incapacity benefit, or income support?
Is the only income into the household hers?
  • there is NO help avaliable for heating oil just as there is non avaliable for buying gas or electricity, help with insulation

My partner is Belgian, and he receives his Disability from the Belgian Riziv, the equivalent of our Benefits system. I receive nothing, his is the only income.

Thanks to everyone for answering, I can see now that there is no help to be had, I am not sure insulation would be any help. The house is rented but is already insulated, the trouble is we live in one of the coldest areas of the UK (north west Scotland) and the past two winters have seen temperatures reach minus 24 degrees. We are dreading another winter like the last two but cannot afford heating oil, which is our only source of central heating. We haven't had any since the winter before last.
If we were younger and without health problems we'd just suck it up and deal with it, but as we get older and especially with my partner's disability, more frail, well, winters are just becoming especially hard.
Never mind though. Thanks for responding.

Don't you receive help with your rent and council tax if your partner's disability is your only income?

as the winters are becoming harsher for you to deal with as you get older why dont you move from wher you are to a less remote location? as you are renting and wont have the hassle of marketing your property is should be relatively easy.

I don't receive housing benefit or the like (used to though) as they calculate we are just a few pounds over the limit. And we cannot move because moving costs a great deal of money...month's deposit, removal money, etc.

Without being fully understanding of your situation, is it really not possible to move and to go on the council list for housing? There must be some urgency attached to this request given that you have a partner who is disabled and frail. I would also suggest that you lobby, lobby and lobby your MP so that he can assist you. There must be a way for you to either move or get heating. Imagine the scandal it would cause if the the unthinkable happened because you suffered from hypothermia. I would urge you to fight this and keep fighting until you either get oil or more suitable housing.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
