Santander problems! Help Please

Hi, just new new here and am hoping someone can help me out.

Recently closed my Abbey account I've had for years as I've not liked it since it became Santander. I recently changed my name and asked if they could make out my cheque in the new one. A few weeks later in the post I received the cheque but it's in my old name.

I've tried calling but got no help; I then wrote to them and over a month later I got a generic letter back that was again no help.

The bank I've switched to is a new account I've just opened and I think if I take in a cheque in another name they'll think I'm just some con artist who has opened an account to rob someone elses money.

All my IDs etc. are in my new name and with all the time it's taking Santander to get back to me I'm scared I'll never be able to cash my cheque - I've had it since July.

Anyone else been able to get a cheque changed, or can suggest some advice? Would be really grateful for any help.

They can only make a cheque out to the account holder. You should have changed your name on the account before you closed it.
