Personal Data Compromised

Hi there,
I entered a promotion on a major electronics manufacturers website, following buying one of their products. I got a call today from said company to tell me due to a loophole the personal data I entered (no financial data) was able to accessed by other visitors to the website.
Now I appreciate them telling me, but the more I think about it the more I'm annoyed it was allowed to happen in the first place, and am wondering if there's anything I can do to hold them accountable?
I remember studying the data protection act at Uni, and I'm sure they must have fallen foul of it.
Any ideas guys?

Chances are that they will already have been in contact with the Information Commissioner.
Their website: http://www.ico.gov.uk/complaints/data_protection.aspx says you should try to sort with the company first (!), but they would be the people to raise the complaint to.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Thanks for the reply.
I'll send the company a complaint and see where it goes.
This is the 3rd time I've had my personal details stolen or compromised by a big company!:mad:0 -
If you send the company a complaint they may offer you some compensation - I was offered compensation and an apology after a vetting agency for tenants released my details to an insurance company who then cold called me.
Generally the information commissioner is toothless (or they choose not to show/use what teeth they do have) and you'll get further by approaching the company directly with a complaint than by raising a complaint with the commissioner.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0
