Hi
I have a slightly different question to the usual...
My daughter is 18 and finished normal school last year, stayed on for resits (so I have done this before ish) so the tax credits stopped 31st August for a week or 2 til it was sorted...not an issue.
This year as her course finished at the end of May, the tax credits stopped immediately on the day she finished the course...then she started a new qualifying course at college so I informed TCO before time and on the day she started, so the new payments have startedfrom 1st September.:j
Now here comes the questions....
are the tax credits backdated to when she finished in May?
or are the summer holidays not counted, meaning she didnt qualify during those three months?:(
Is it a new claim from 1st September?
hope someone can help.

my daughter is starting her 3rd year at college and the tax credits have continued without a break.
They do backdate 3 months unless that has changed0 -
This area is stupidly complicated - it depends on things like what her intentions were when she finished the course in May! If, say, she decided to look for a job in May but couldn't find one, then decided to do the second course, then tax credits won't be payable between May and Sept, as I understand it. But if here intentions all along were to do the second course then I think they are. See http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/tctmanual/TCTM02230.htm0

Hi,
Thanks for the replies.
I have phoned TCO and they will not be back dated as we didnt have a definate colege offer til mid June, so my claim was stopped then restarted on the her first day.
My fault for being woolly in May!
Thanks for the help anyway
