Advice needed - Nissan Primera

Hi all,

Have been a lurker on the forum. I need some advice and thought it may be best to ask here. My car (Nissan Primera) has got the ABS light on constant display (MOT due as well:().

I took car to the garage and they did not have the right diagnostic lead to find out this fault and cannot direct me to any garage that may have it. Their recommendation was to take to a Nissan garage and I have heard that cost of going to Nissan is very expensive. Approximately £90.00 to book a slot for investigating fault. This is so confusing and stressing me out as I need a car for work and my knowledge of car is mostly limited to driving.

Any advice and information is much appreciated, as do not have a lot of money and slugging away at my debts.

Many thanks.

Phone round all the local garages in your area and ask them if they can help, until you find one that can help.
Things like brake issues shouldn't be ignored really.

I thought all the OBD cables were standard for diagnostics...

you dont give a year for your primera
why people dont give full information i always fail to understand????????????
its probably the reason doctors miss diagnose and send dead people home but i digress

you need to check the integrity of the abs reluctor rings on the front driveshafts, you will be looking for bad corrosion but more likely it will have snapped but still in position
available for bargain prices on ebay ,you might need to count the teeth
    these are fit and play
you will need some tackle to strip down the front suspension though so might be best to ask a local man in an independent garage to assess and report (you can supply ring ,quicker see as local factor will only supply a complete cv joint and ive seen these imported jobbies and they are rubbish)

It is a MoT failure point if the light is on. I know this because mine's just failed on it. I had no problem till the garage renewed the brakes last year, since when it has come on intermittently. The ABS actually works fine.

I'm being charged over £200 for a new sensor. Had I known this, I might have found someone handy to 'fix' the light instead!
  • Thanks for your replies and information - much appreciated. The year is 2000. I will ring round to local garages and see if they can help.
