  • Thanks Alot for those links to the NS&I death claim forms - Very helpful, I must say this forum has helped me a GREAT DEAL - when one is faced with only abrupt dismissals from banks!!! who dont give a s**t about helping people - unless its quid pro quo and they are after making a commission on it!! PCDIMWIT
  • ~Thanks alot for those links for finding dormant bank and bldg soc. accounts, very helpful, God Bless this forum and help site!! PCDIMWIT
  • Thanks again for that info, have copied and pasted all the links from the other contributors, sleepless saver etc., and will save them in my documents folder, Very Helpful!!! But, there is one thing, what is the DOB that you refer to when approaching the NS&I with the certified death certificate (if I have the Letters of Administration from the probate court will I need to send a certified copy death certificate for the NS&I even though I have copies of the letters of administration, me being the executor of this intestate relative';s estate - relative died over 1 year ago and I would have to apply to the office that does Death certs again for another certified death certificate - I think they are only valid for authentification purposes for 6 months??) Thanks PCDMWIT
  • thanks for that link to Gov.uk pension tracing service, however that link seems to be ONLY for people tracing THEIR OWN lost pensions, I am the executor of a deceased relative who died intestate and I now have the Letter of Administration and right to act as executor for the estate of this deceased relative. I am trying to find the Civil Service pension that I KNOW she was being paid but it was not being paid into the same back as her State Pension and attendance allowance and other benefits were being paid into, hence the problem, I dont know the details of the exact pension (though other contributors have pointed me in the right direction there) but not knowing which bank it was paid into is the main focus at the moment as I can only approach the bank (when I know which one the Civil Service pension was being paid into) in order to get details of transasctions and deposit at death in that bank account - Do you see what I mean?? That gov.uk link wont find HER pension as it is only for YOUR or My personal pension tracing. thanks PCDIMWIT

    You only need to contact Capita Hartshead for this, no need to bother with the pension tracing service unless you have good reason to think there are other occupational pensions.

    DOB=date of birth
  • Oh, Right, DOB = Date of Birth, I couldnt think what it meant, thanks PCDIMWIT

    If this was an elderly relative, I am thinking the bank would be on in her nearest town, so those are the ones I would approach first. And ask a manager int he first you come to which banks in the town have closed in the last so many years as it could be one of them too.

    She won't have opened an acct online or far away I don't think?
  • Well apparently there IS an online bank account with the Halifax that we know of, but the Civil Service pension was NOT being paid into this account - Basically another family member had an enduring power of attorney on deceased relatives administration. However there was no will made, hence I have applied and got the probate and letter of administration. Other relative is NOT FORTHCOMING with info re: funeral costs, bank accounts, care home etc., we realise that the Power of Attorney lapsed the minute the relative in care home died but we dont even know which care home she was in as I (who am now the executor of the estate with the letters of administration etc.,) live in another part of the country. Not being able to find the considerable Civil Service pension (amongst other things) is making it very difficult as the person who had the Power of Attorney on relative with alsheimers who was in care home is not at all forthcoming with simple requests for things like the funeral costs and knowledge of any other bank accounts. I think you can see the situation??? Any tips/help much appreciated - PCDMWIT
  • Thanks for that but I think you can see from my reply to Atush, I have the probate and letters of administration and am acting as executor on this relatives estate, being in another part of the country to where she was (we know basically the town where she died) but I dont personally know the name/address of the care home she died in, will it have this on the death certificate?? Given that the funeral would have been initiated from the care home, will I be able to find the actual name of the funeral director from the care home - the other relative who had the POA on this lady's administration whilst she was in a care home with Alsheimers is not at all FORTHCOMING with even the most basic information. I think you can see the situation here??? Obviously I need to assess all the costs, re: funeral, cremation service, outstanding sundry bills, and all deposits on deceased's bank accounts/savings before I can properly reach a final value of the estate. Any tips/help much appreciated, thanks PCDIMWIT

    PC, I have a bad feeling about this, as the relative mentionned above knows somehting and isn't saying.

    The first port of call, with papers in hand, should be the health serive with the NI number to find ot wht care home she was in- surely there will be some record as she may have been in receipt of some sort of benefot (incl winter fuel pymt) that wouldhave gone thru them. If not, they will br of help telling you how to track things via her NI number.

    It may (or may not) help us to know why you weren't the POA holder if her closest relative (and executor) as there could possibly other educating paperwork filed by the POA person?
