Anyone had their Barclays ppi claim rejected?

I have successfully claimed ppi for a loan and credit card from Santander and Tesco on the grounds that I ticked the box originally because I thought it would prejudice my application and that actually I did not need it as I was in a job that paid me when I am off sick.
I have 2 cards with Barclaycard and today I got a letter back from one of them saying my case has not been upheld because I would have been given information in the literature that they sent me with the application.
I assume my second claim will be the same.
I intend to go to Ombudsman as I still think I have a case, especially after the others have paid out without any trouble at all.
Has anyone had a similar experience ?

I realise that this statement relates to complaints that have been upheld but what led you to believe that your application would be prejudiced if you did not tick it.

That seems a reasonable comment. If you ticked it because that was what Tesco or Santander told you about their accounts (whether true or not) it would not be Barclaycard's fault.

Had mine rejected by barclaycard as well.

Have got the official letter. I was given the date of today that they would deal with the complaint and still hadnt received it today so rang them and the guy read the letter out saying they will reject this.

Like you I am baffled as egg paid out £1400 quid back in april. This went to the ombudsman and they paid out no bother after that so I hope they will as well.

  • I have just had my PPI claim with barclaycard (previously Goldfish) rejected and just wondered how people on this thread got on when they took it to the next step? I took out the card in 2003/2004 and have no memory of taking out PPI - was employed and so had no need for it. The rejection letter states that they have reaosn to believe the sales advisor would have discussed this with me. Do I need to pursue this or lay it to bed?

Depedsn on the reason for rejection.

Being employed is a good reason to have PPI. Not a complaint reason.

What evidence do you have to prove otherwise?

I was successful with Barclaycard / Goldfish. On my form, I mentioned the fact that when Barclaycard took it over, they automatically carried on taking PPI, I wasn't given the option to remove it which I understand they should have given me. Whether this made any difference I don't know but worth bearing in mind if you're taking it further.

When a provider is bought by another, the existing contract should continue. So, that reason shouldnt result in success. There must have been another reason (which could be below a floor limit auto payout or going for their quota on paying out)

  • :jHi Yes I had my claim rejected last year (ppi on credit card since 1992) but had already referred it to the FOS as Barclaycard didn't keep to their 16 week deadline, they finally wrote after I made a phone call to them 20 weeks after my initial letter, the FOS have taken just short of 6months as its been in with them since last september and ON Saturday lunchtime I had an email from the FOS with a letter stating that Barclays would be settling my complaint after their involvement and would write to me soon with calculations!!!! Yippee - refer it to the FOS and just keep chasing them by email as they do reply!!! I also wrote to Barclaycard 3 times after they initially rejected and asked them to cancel the policy and guess what - yes they ignored those letters!! to date it's still in place!!!Good Luck!!!! :A
