Advice needed re: item I purchased

I won an auction on 27th August for a mobile phone. Picked it up from my parents on Monday after it arrived Saturday.
Very happy with phone, pretty accurate description although I'd say it was more 'VGC' than excellent. Anyway...
Having paid for an unlock code, sorted all that, was pretty excited to be able to use it. BUT... the previous owner has a lock code on some of the features, eg Messages.
I have sent them a message via ebay (see below) and am waiting for a reply.
How long should I wait for a reply? I have searched for solutions to this and it seems I may have to get a cable and fiddle with it to reset the code. But then I think why should I pay for something extra.
If I don't hear back from the seller within a reasonable time frame (say a week) would it be acceptable for me to leave negative feedback? To my mind I have purchased a phone in good faith that it worked, have sorted out unlocking it myself and now cannot use all the features of the phone.
Thanks in advance for any advice

Cool phone in very good working and excellent cosmetic condition. Actual item for sale shown in photos.
I was using it on Virgin Mobile network. Not sure if it needs to be unlocked but can be unlocked if needed.

Hi there,
Received my phone on Saturday, have unlocked it so I can use it with my sim card but have discovered there is a phone lock set up so I cannot access message inbox etc.
Could you give me the code please so I can get on with using my new phone. Very happy with item except this small issue.
Thank you.

Is it a business or private seller? Check to see if they're actually active on ebay at the moment, could be away.
If it looks as though they're on ebay, leaving FB, listing etc, then I'd give them a day or two.
If a business seller their contact details will be on their listings, if private you can get their phone number from ebay & give them a call to ask for the code.
If you don't get any joy then you can open a SNAD & return to get a full refund, you will have to pay for the return postage though.0
