Hello all,
I was wondering if you could help me please,
My mother recently when to B&Q in watford where she parked in a disabled bay in their private carpark. She is registered disabled and is a badge holder but she was in a rush to use the toilet and didn't put the badge on display.
Upon returning to the she found a parking ticket for £40.
I checked and there is a sign in the carpark stating that a penalty charge will be levided for failure to display, however it is not attached to any walls and is just free standing in a corner of the carpark. Can a private firm persue such a charge? and since the sign is not 'clearly' displayed is such a charge valid?
Any advice would be greatky appricated.
Kind regards,
Rikki

They can pursue the charge. Your mother might have a defence that the sign displaying the charges was not visible/clear enough, due to it's non-permanent nature (free-standing), and it's poistioning."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I would speak to the store in person with the badge and badge holder - best not to 'hope it will go away'0

The same thing happened to me outside Asda a few months ago...I phoned the number whch was displayed on the ticket and they said to just show my disabled badge when the man came, which was about 10 minutes, and they would take the clamp off. and I wouldn't have to pay..the fine would have been £70.
I would get in touch with them explaining what happened and maybe they will cancel it.
Good luck!0
