SCS Sofa - haggling

morning expert money savers
im looking at buying a sofa from scs its The Derwent, the 3 seater is £599 and the love seat is £539
All together they are £1138
SCS claim that this is an offer price and after the sale they will go up to £1998 although the guy promised me the sale is only until 8pm on bank holiday monday (that was last week)
Anyway, we could pay the £1138 now but i would prefer to spread the cost using their 4 years interest free period (i would only take it over 2 years and pay it off after 1 year).
but i want some money off, specifically £138. ive said this to the guy in the stafford store, and then had to sit through 15mins of him assuring me that there was nothing he could do on the price. I said ok we wont buy it if you cant take off the £138 and we left.
i went into the scs in wednesbury. the guy there came up to me and i tried to play it cool and said i want to buy this sofa and tried to from the stafford store but the guy couldnt help us with the price, what can you do for me. Again i was assured that there was nothing he could do. He then said that if im going to use the credit option the FSA have regulated against stores offering discounts on products when people use credit as it entices people to get into debt.
so my questions are
is the second guy right about the FSA regulations?
and
how likely is it do you think i will get this £138 off - its not much to ask as a discount - the margin they make must be pretty hight so i would say there is some wiggle room.

Firstly there is no real 0% fimnance from these stores - its built into the price. The reason they do not discount is because peiople would then see that there is no real 0% finance.
One reason I wouldn't buy from SCS or DFS or try not to buy anything that has salemen on commission rather than on salaries or owner managed businesses preferably0 -
In January we ordered a Quantos 3 seater and love seat which should have come to £2298 + £50 delivery. We managed to knock him down to £2100 with free delivery
I wouldn't worry too much about the sale prices... ours has been "on sale" at the same price since we started shopping around in December!! Been smoke free for 4 years!! :beer:0 -
Haggling at big chain stores is pretty tough. We bought an expensive mattress from Dreams and after 35 minutes of haggling got zero reduction and a free cuddly Dreams lamb and relaxation CD. !!!!!!?
On the other hand, we've haggled loads off various items at small independent stores.
Big chains make their money from people who want the safety of buying from a big chain. Frankly, they don't need to give discounts so they rarely do. If you can get the same/similar sofa elsewhere for less money, buy it elsewhere. If you want the SCS one and the price is fair, buy it.0 -

Correct about the 0% finance and not discounting it. However it would be ileagal if they did discount it and asked you to pay by another method. Any discounted price IS ALSO entitled to the 0% finance.
0% finance is just a different way of having a sale, instead of knocking money off they are offering an alternative way of paying.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0
