Halifax do report current accounts to credit reference agencies but only those taken out more recently than yours.

When you took out your account, there was no provision in the agreement for them to report data about your running of the account to credit reference agencies, as CRAs worked very differently back then, they didn't have such detailed data.

You can ask Halifax to start reporting and they may agree to this if you sign a waiver agreeing for them to share data, or they may be unable to do this due to the way their systems work meaning your only option would be to close the account and open a new one if you want it to appear on your credit file.

    Good luck! :o

  • one of the reasons i ask is that on seperate threads here people are reporting guarenteed offers on Halifax credit cards.

Yet i see nothing like that

Specifically positive, or 'white', data. The provision to report negative account conduct, ie 'black' data, existed pre-1998.

Is your salary (ideally paid via BACS Direct Credit) paid into the account?

What's the account 'throughput' per month?

Would you say you had a reasonable credit rating?

Hi, I opened up my account in 1996 it was called maxim at that time. My account always showed up at CRA. Accounts held at FD and HSBC opened similar time are Not showing up at CRA.
  • I have a ultimate reward account with Halifax and that does show on my credit file

Who told you all this? Have you forgotten the most basic fundamentals that the DPA 1998 was only enacted to bring UK law into line with the Euro Directive 1995. Of course there was authority prior to this. credit agencies have been around over 100 years.

Look up the Data protection Act 1984 and the Access to Personal Files Act 1987 then you will see why I laugh at your post. Is it normal for you to offer such bad advice?

You cannot ask a bank to start reporting data to the credit agency, they only do this if they want to. We as consumer have no say in this. :rotfl:

yes, agreed. however this was not to differentiate between white or black markers, it was purely a way of catalogues monitoring risk because banks were way behind in data sharing than catalogues were.

As a child I think almost every other house near me had one of some sort, littlewoods (SDG) are the worst and had a huge influence in our credit agencies and why they exist today!
