I'd be hugely grateful if anyone could give me a number (preferably 0800
) for individuals rather than the business arm of Equifax.
If you're interested why read on, but you don't have to, it's a bit of a rant buy I'm furious with the whole system and its deliberate inaccessibility:mad:! My bank told me today that being their customer for 30 years meant nothing and they could not reinstate the overdraft facility they took away without my permission because Equifax had given me a bad credit report. Bearing in mind my bank took away my overdraft facility because I never use it and I have just renewed my mortgage with no problems with their credit check, I am bemused. I searched the impenetrable Equifax website, even called a poor girl in the affiliates section called Hannah, who said she keeps getting calls like mine and wants her number off the Equifax website - no doubt because people desperate to find a number call her all the time, but she said she didn't even have a number for Equifax only their affiliates.
I finally submitted to the Equifax agenda and tried to get a £2 credit report but the form wouldn't accept my details so I had to register to send them an email asking for help with the form. All I want to do is speak to someone! I tried calling 118118 to get a number, I got a business number which had as option 4 on the recorded message 'members of the general public' I was honest and pressed that number and was left on hold for 10 minutes at my expense, at which point I gave up!
Someone should write an article for the papers about it if they haven't already!
Thanks for any help you can give me

Not easy to work out how much the charge for a 0844 number is. However, I managed to find that 0844 335 is in band g6, and the charge for that band is 5.11p per minute. It's all in here somewhere if you look for long enough.
So, saynoto0870.com is your friend. Try 0800 066 5825, or 020 7298 3000 if you have a mobile or landline package that includes geographic numbers0 -

I had no idea that banks needed to ask your permission to remove your overdraft. I suppose it must be categorised as a basic human right..

Overdrafts can be withdrawn at any time, it's entirely at the bank's discretion.....you permission is not needed in any way, shape or form.
You're just lucky you weren't 2k into it or something like some of the poor saps on here.
Best if you stick at it and find what info is on your record though, might be stuff that's not correct and needs to be removed."We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0 -
If it's not a basic human right it should be!0

DO NOT, IF YOU VALUE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY, SIGN UP FOR THIS!!!!
I signed up for the free trial, and thought it would be interesting to track my record for a couple of months, so happy to pay the 6.99 a month for that period. Went to log onto my account this evening (a few days after the first payment had cleared on my credit card) and it was locked, and it gave me the 0870 number to ring ("as they needed further details"). So it seems that not only do they charge you 6.99 but they then get you to pay to unlock the account. Interestingly they could unlock the account, but needed details of every credit card I have had in the last 6 years, their credit limits and the dates I took them out or they could not unlock the account. I couldn't remember the month and year I opened my credit card so no unlock. Unlocking the account takes more security than opening it.. I wonder if that is to do with them wanting their hands on your cash!
Anyway I have cancelled the account, it seems that if you cancel on the phone and wish to confirm in writing then the only way to do this is by snail-mail! There is no email address that you can use, they won't send out any confirmation.. neither is there an email address for customer service, nor for customer complaints.
Interestingly if you go onto the web site, under leadership in the uk there is nothing. I think that says it all! As for their code of ethics - its laughable how far their real business practices appear to be from their code.0
