Its not really hypothetical Savy Sue as i know where what i mentioned, happens !
The truth is that managers and employers often see ordinary hard working employees merely as assets to be exploited.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -

I have t agree with this, my friend often booked holiday and was told that he could have time off unpaid, but his holiday entitlment this a very big company and lots of major stores. Also he booked holidays and was not told it was cancelled and when it went on holidays his salary was deducted for the 2 weeks holiday, his payslip said unpaid holiday. He holiday form goes missing and does not show up again. Managers uses holiday entitlement to assert their control over employees. :eek:0 -

Sounds to me like he needs to take some action on this.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
I work at a company where we have no spare people or admin support so if it doesn't get done by me it doesn't get done, everyone is already working flat out so inevitably things slide and some customers don't get what they want when they want it when someone is on holiday. However everyone needs a break and if they know in advance that there will be two weeks I won't be there for them they usually cope and I go on holiday sans phone and laptop as I am taking a break and I can't influence anything whilst I am away. Fortunately nobody dies if things have to wait for a week or two.0

He did take action about 3 years ago because employers needed staff to request their holidays 1 year in advance and parent with children got first preferences. He put in a grievance as he wanted 2 weeks holiday leave for caring commitments which was refused despite giving months notices for 2 weeks holiday leave.
The finding of the grievance was nothing was in the staff hand book to say that employees had to book holidays in advance. The same company had the policy of asking employees to book in advance and parents with children were given first preference.
It got worse if he did not book a year in advance. When he applied for holiday leave they just let him take it and deducted his wages un paid leave. Then his holiday form went missing as a punishment.0 -

Is this place unionised?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
Apparently not, my friend was in a union but they did not do anything about...he left union recentlyi due to their inaction and who would blame him.
Heard on LBC yesterday and his company was mentioned, the presented was in the store and the person checking him out told him they had to do 17 items a minute otherwise they would be disciplined, should say it was about 6.am in the morning that I heard that comment on LBC.0 -

That must surely be discriminatory to say that people with children come first??? I cant see how ANY category of people could be deemed to have "first rights" here. It should surely be "first come first served"?
Re anything EVER that employees put in to employers (be it holiday or anything else) ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS keep a copy of it - whether it was put in on paper or by email or whatever-other-way and, in return, there is the onus on them to agree your request in writing and you then have proof you have agreement. Always make sure its in writing and always make sure you keep a copy. You can then prove you've asked and they've agreed - and, if they cant provide a bit of written "proof" that they've refused or changed their minds subsequently - then they HAVENT:D0
