Round the world Trip

Hi
My Husband, 4 year old son and I are planning a year longer round the world trip starting at the end of November.
We hope to travel to several countries in asia and south america but around half of our time will be spent in Australia & USA.
I was thinking about getting a foreign currency current account and was wondering which would be best?
Also should I open one in Australian dollars or US dollars or both?
Any other tips you have for travelling would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
