My wife is furious

Options
My wife did some self employed leaflet deliveries for a company, they are claiming that some did'nt get delivered & therefore are refusing to pay her.

It took her 5 days walking around the estates for a few quid.
They say that they have check houses & that they did'nt arrive, but so far will not give us the details.

It's only about £150 they owe, but she was putting this aside for xmas.

Any help appreciated.
Managing my own debts & it's slowly looking better by the month. :T

She should contact them again, stating that she delivered to x streets (name them) and the time she made the deliveries. If they are leaflets then it is likely that people could have chucked them in the bin and when asked say they didnt receive them. She should also submit an invoice for her time (which is what she should do if she is really self employed and registered with HMRC because she still needs to pay tax and NI).

It is up to the company to prove that they were not delivered. If they continue to refuse to pay then she could take them to court via moneyclaim online but she will be charged about £30 but that can be added to the costs.

i would say to the company that if i don't get the cash i'll get my own leaflets printed telling people that i delivered to to ignore that leaflet ,
  • these types of companies send back checkers to do random checks ..

There should have been a list with her leaflets which she should have written down any houses she didnt/couldnt deliver to, did she have this sheet? did she fill it in? did she hand it in? did she fill it in correctly? did she keep a copy of this list?

As this type of job is on a self employed basis send the company an invoice with a x amount of days to pay

and see what happens, it is pointless being ars@y with them, as this is not a professional attitude to take... be professional... and if your wife is 100% sure she delivered to EVERY house ( except the ones which you notified the company of) on the mapped area, and everything is above board ( ie wife not claiming, and the wrok is being declared etc) then stand your ground...

and as been mentioned with very sound advice from Horace if no payment is made then take legal proceedings

had a similar argument at RM with regard to 'checking up' on any D2D items delivered
how many people could list what items they got for sure?

Exactly. If someone come knocking on my door asking if I'd received a leaflet x no. of days ago advertising company 'Y', I would just reply 'sorry, I really could not tell you'.

I just did a similar job, only to earn £50 from delivering brochures to 500 houses. It seemed a good idea at the time, a bit of exercise. Turned out to be a nightmare, probably because I am 53 and unfit!
I was allocated three villages including my own. No list or anything, took me ages to find all the houses up little nooks and crannies, through gates and passage ways. Some cases couldn't find front doors or letter boxes. First day ended with blisters, burnt forehead and a dog bite!
Don't know if my money will turn up but pretty sure I wont be doing it again.
