Interview regarding Work Programme (help)

  • I thought it was 12 months before they started sending you on these courses? Speaking from experience they are awful. Be prepared to sit in a room with people more interested in talking about robbing cars than finding work.
  • There are NO mandatory work placements on the work programme, you will not be doing "free work" for anyone . There is NOTHING in arranging a work placement for the provider as they have to pay out for bus fares etc. That may change as the work programme goes on but now....

There are no mandatory work placements on the Work programme

The nearest thing to it would be a work trial for a customer with a Job at the end of it lasting a week so both kinds can see if it is the Job for them. For something like that you need to be sending somebody enthusiastic and with a good attitude as employer will not be taking on losers. Hopefully we will be lining up some people soon as I have twenty vacancies that need filling NOW!

It is not the provider, it is the JCP that pays for travel, childcare and replacement care costs although the decision is taken at local office level.

Unfortunate but often true. As you see on some of the forums, many people are more interested in how they can get round the system and get out of it rather than say "great, something that may improve my skills and chances of employment"!

I have my interview later today an am dreading it. Worried they will be sticking me on MORE courses and expect me to do more work placements (already done three!) The courses are horrendous - I was stuck in a room full of druggies and a man who had been in prison since the age of 14 to 33 because he was a murderer.. felt very uneasy to say the least.

Lets us know what happens in the interview, I have one myself in two weeks.

All I want to know is, how often you have to go in and for duration?

I have heard the work programme is to be attended once a fortnight, but for a full day. Does anybody know if this is true?

It's up to 8 weeks for the work placement now. Up to 30 hours per week. One of the employers I deal with is taking people on a 4 week placement after the 2 week training element. They will be rotating around the various parts of the company and being trained as a new employee would. They then get interviews and the bare minimum is that they are on the books of the agency they use.
it used to be a minimum of 30 hours. with it being upto does that mean people could effectively go and do one day a week for upto 8 weeks for their placement? of course that is not likely to happen. knowing the way advisers think even if they are just sending people to a charity shop they will make then do a full 5 days rather than say 3 or 4 days.

see post 28 for the criteria used regarding when people get refered. theres no sitting in a room anymore like on the old new deal.

i remember in an induction being told they had a policy were they accepted drug addicts and alcoholics. later they said if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol you will be dismissed. its like saying it is ok to be fat on this course but if you turn up fat you will be dismissed.

be prepared for them to not have a clue what they are doing. mine told me that i would alternate fortnightly between having an appointment in the office and having a phone call from them. i later discovered that is cr*p. that was after i had spent a day waiting for a phone call that never came. at the moment i am just getting appointments to go in and spend a bit of time doing jobsearch. i was in on 5th september. guess when my next appointment is? its the 27th september.
