Two New Cars Needed - recommendations please

Due to a change in circumstances, due in the next few months, my partner and I will require two new cars.
We currently have a Renault Grand Scenic, 7 seater, petrol, money-pit and a Ford Mondeo diesel estate.
We have 5 children between us so a 7 seater is almost a necessity, we could consider using two cars if it made a lot of economic sense.
However, I will soon be doing a lot less commuting and two big cars aren't really going to be required.
We will both be doing above average mileages, say 15-20k each per annum so I think diesel will be the way to go on both counts.
Budget would be whatever we can get for the current cars, say £4k for both plus another £6k or so, say £10k maximum for both cars but if we can keep well under that so much the better.
Considering a Ford Galaxy/Seat Alhambra and a smaller diesel, maybe a Ford Fiesta. Partner likes the look of the Citroen Pluriel.
I've owned Fords for 10 years or so now without any major issues, conversely the Renault has been a nightmare!
Thanks for any suggestions.

Keep the Mondeo diesel and buy a 7 seater to replace the Renault. What you spend on buying a new car to replace the Mondeo will be far in excess of the savings you'll make in fuel unless you buy a car that costs the same or a little more as you get for the Mondy.
However I will make this one point. You will not enjoy doing 15k to 20k a year in a little hatchback after doing it in the Mondeo. An example...a friend and we went to France. It was a 700 mile drive. I was in my Mondeo with wife and two kids, he and his girlfriend were in a Renault Clio 1.5TD -both cars also had luggage for occupants. Even though he managed 20MPG more than us (I was doing mid 50's), he said he would rather be in ours as it was smaller, more cramped and not as comfortable ride. When it came to hills we had to slow down and wait for him

Yeah good point, we may well keep the Mondy until it starts costing money, defo want to get rid of the Renault before the next MOT though!:A0

Ive had a Galaxy for quite a while now and had no problems at all, like the fact that the rear most seats are "proper" seats.Wouldnt touch the Pluriel with a bargepole.Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.
Got a huge Buzz out of it.0
