ok, so now im confused. the 'extra' costs of future insurance for both of us (whatever they may be) can be part of a claim to the other party' insurer. The thing is there will be no claim for injury and obviously they are now arranging to get the car fixed and give a courtesy car etc etc, so does my OH let his insurer know that he wants to make a claim for extra losses if he gives a figure

i dont understand how our extra costs cannot be met, they are caused by the accident, surely that is what the driver is insured for?

Who has advised you of this? (You have been mislead).

General question: If your insurer repairs a damaged vehicle at their choice of garage, the insurer is liable if repairs are poor quality/go wrong.

If you deal with the other side's insurers directly, can you hold them responsible for botched repairs or do you lose this extra protection?

You still get additional protection but by dealing directly with the TPI you lose the protection of the Financial Ombudsman Service so if things go badly wrong and the TPI refuse to deal with it your only way of dealing with it is the courts.
