We are off to Turkey next Monday and have not changed any money yet. We have all inclusive holiday and just need the money for souvenirs, turkish delight etc. Is it necessary to have some handy euros, american dollars or turkish lira for these sort of things? I would appreciate your advice.

Take Sterling notes, you can change them anywhere

Rate yesterday was around 2.75TL to the £1, bit of haggling you could get nearer 2.8TL to the £1

Some shops will even take sterling

    Have a good time

Yes you can change anywhere , but some places display prices in the Euro ( Antalya / Side for example) Yes you can offer to pay/haggle in the £/TL but its another complication . I don't need when on my hols. So I pay ( shock horror) in euros .
If its a good Ai you are going to need so little extra money , beware of changing too much , you will lose out again on the exchange rate when converting back to the £.

Enjoy your hols . it was a little warmer back in July.

Be careful , some of the Turkish Delight offered seems very dry to me . Its very pretty but tasteless. Not your normal Cadbury's . If you are after the cubes ( pastel shades) gooey , thats what I wanted , you need to find 'LOKUM'
As I type this, am looking at a box.
Price , can't help you with , I was at a 5* hotel and buying on site , paid top dollar. But the staff did go out of there way to find me what I wanted.

Where are you going and which Hotel?

Going to Kemer not too far from Antalia, 4*star hotel.
"Locum" - this is exactly what I am looking for...

The turkish lira is fluctuating quite dramatically at the moment on the high street here, over the last fortnight it has ranged from 2.68 to 2.80 so depends really on what rate your offered as to whether its worth buying here or not. I personally wouldn't buy us$ specially for turkey or euros but if i had some lying about at home i'd take them with me.

I took turkish lira and sterling but i went to marmaris years ago, different parts of turkey have different preferences, all take lira but some prefer euros and most like sterling but off the top of my head i'm not sure which part prefers which. If you take lira or euros just don't change too much cause you lose so much if you bring it back, normally i just save mine for my next holiday.

Buy turkish delight in shops where they offer you a sample and then pack loose cubes into boxes for you. It costs a bit more but you know you are getting the real deal.

Don't buy the pre-packed boxes that are often on "3 for £x" or BOGOF offers. They're cheap crap for tourists, and you end up opening the big box to find a tiny bag with a few horrid jelly pieces in.

We took a few lira to get through the first couple of days, and then changed sterling in the resort. There's plenty ATM's too if you want to draw cash out.
Here I go again on my own....
