2 adults, 4 children, £5k to spend on a holiday. Where?

Hi,
We're paying into a policy that means in 2015 we'll have about £5k to spend on a holiday.
Given that our usual holidays are to a caravan in Wales (owned by a family member) this is going to be a bit of a holiday of a lifetime.
Obviously we're nowhere near ready to book anything yet, but we don't even really know about where to start looking.
We like the idea of a warm beach holiday.
We've been to Disneyland Paris before and would like to take the kids to Disneyland in Florida.
We also like the idea of somewhere a bit different like Canada.
Ideally we'd be looking at 2 weeks away - possibly combining two different ideas.
Our children will be 11, 9, 7 and 5.
Any suggestions?

Its a very long way off to start planning anything. If you fancy florida then go with that, sounds ideal for a big one off holiday considering the ages of your kids. Bear in mind though that 5k might not be enough for 6 of you especially if your going in school hols, flight/accom will be in the region of £400-£500+ pp plus park tickets (which I havent priced myself but my mate paid £500pp for all the parks for 2wks) then you need spends. Maybe start saving abit extra aswell in the mean time£100 - £10,0000

If you are thinking about Disney I'd head over to the Dibb board - they will be able to tell you EVERYTHING you need0

Yes if thinking of WDW Florida I would say that if you a tied to school hols you will need to boost this amount. Flights seem to have gone up alot to Orlando in the last 2 years. We have just got back and paid just under £1000 pp flight only.Bit of a Florida Fan :j

Ok, so maybe we need to scrap the Disney idea. Where else could we go?
What would our £5k get us if we didn't put anything extra towards it?
Would we get an all inclusive package somewhere nice and warm with good beaches?
Would we get flights and a self-catered villa and have money left over for food?0 -
How about travelling round Europe for the summer holidays? I think I would do disney myself for a one off holiday but perhaps around easter time as its less busy and cheaper.Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0

I've found through research that villa holidays are nearly always the cheapest option by some margin (organising flights and accommodation yourself). The reason for this is that the majority of hotels used by the big high street travel agents only sleep 4 to a room so you end up having to pay for 2 rooms which really bumps the price up. For example, yesterday I was pricing up a week's AI in Majorca for the six of us on the First Choice website and you can't really get anything much for under £4k! And that's the cheapest! I'm not sure however whether the age of my kids makes any difference because mine are older (17, 13, 12, 4).
Anyway, I'd definitely go for the self catering villa option if I was in your position. Holidaylettings.co.uk are a good site for this type of accommodation.
Good luck and happy hunting! Thanks to everyone who posts comps, I love winning prizes big and small

You could look at campsite type holidays - staying in a static caravan or chalet/apartment - these are ideal for big families. Have a look at siblu, keycamp, eurocamp etc, or even book direct with the campsite. Maybe somewhere like NE Spain - great beaches, good weather, watersports, lots of theme parks, water parks etc, and for a bit of culture take a trip to Barcelona. We stayed at El Defin Verde near Girona and it was excellent, right on the beach and an ideal location for seeing the area. Eating out was cheap, though most families seemed to have a BBQ every night (you always get a BBQ on campsites).
Should easily get change out of £5k especially if you drive there, even with a couple of stops on the way. If you fly & hire a car it'll depend what the prices are like at the time, but flights in the August hoilidays are usually reasonable.
We spent a bit over £3k on such a holiday for 4 of us, inc everything, 2 and a half weeks, and we ate out most nights.0 -
Thomas Cook do quite a decent amount of accomodation for larger families. There's 5 of us, so i know how much of a pain it can be.
We went to the Aquamarina (Algarve) for 2 weeks this year...AI. We went may bank holiday week plus the week after.....£4600 and that was 2 inter-connecting rooms with a small lobby inbetween.....sleeps 6 in Proper beds ....not camp beds.
Oh & 2 bathrooms......(those of you with teenage girls will understand where i'm coming from:D)Autism Mum Survival Kit: Duct tape, Polyfilla, WD40, Batteries (lots of),various chargers, vats of coffee, bacon & wine.0
