Advice Please

Hi,

OK, I’ve been a bad boy…..

Basically I run a website as a hobby, and have made a small amount of money from it. (£450) over 12 months. The money came In the form of advertisements.

When the money comes in dribs and drabs, £5 here £10 there, it does not seem like much, but over the course of a year it does add up. For the first time I have sat down and calculated how much I have earned from the website, and it is a significant amount (£450).

During this period I have received both working tax credit and jsa. (Not at the same time)

I now realise it was a bad mistake not informing HMRC about this website / money earned.

So now my question is, what’s the best way to deal with this situation?.

Should I speak to directly to HMRC, or seek legal advice first?

I am hoping that by being honest and informing the HMRC myself, it will lessen the chances of serious repercussions.

Any advice or insight into how this situation will likely play out would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Is the £450 profit. You will have expenses in running the website that you can offset. Anyway the fact you get both working tax credits and JSA together is more of a problem than the £450 undeclared earnings. That small amount won't affect working tax credits.

Working Tax Credits are for those who work.
Job Seekers Allowance is for those who want to work but do not. You can't by definition have both.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
  • I am not a troll.

I guess i have not written this correctly.

During the 12 month period that I have mentioned, I have been employed and received working tax credit, and I have been unemployed and received jsa.

Obviously not at the same time.

    Thanks.
  • You want to be on the cutting tax board. Not sure how to get this moved, but you could just make a new post as there are no replies relevant to your problem on this thread.
  • Hi MrGayle

I've moved the thread over to the Cutting Tax board for you.
Could you do with a Money Makeover?

Does hobby like activites that make a little money count for anything? There was a disregard of £5 per week for people on JSA I'm not sure if it's the same now.
