What's the reason for going abroad for 1 day?

I personally think going for 1 day is fine. I don't agree with the going abroad rules anyway, what if holidays were planned then got made redundant/laid off a week before your holiday? It's either cancel a holiday costing hundreds, maybe into the thousands or miss out on JSA payments, which you might need! It's a ridiculous rule in my opinion, especially as you're allowed on holiday in the UK!

Note that you are allowed to attend job interviews abroad, so long as you are away for one week or less. So if you are travelling as part of your search for work, no problem. Even if you have other reasons for going away, perhaps you could make contact with a potential employer at your destination and arrange a meeting, so that you could then truthfully tell the Jobcentre about your journey without losing any money.

Sorry, I think this is incorrect. In order for one to go abroad and not affect claim they must inform the jobcentre and complete a form. In other words it must be agreed before hand. I used to work as a sigon on adviser.

To answer the OP's original question, they probably won't find out unless someone reports you. The fact is it is NOT allowed as you are not meeting the condition of JSA i.e. you are not available for work even if it is for one day.

Edit: Even if you are away in the UK on holiday you must complete a form beforehand. Please note you are allowed 2 periods of holiday per year (totalling no more than 2 weeks) where you can be away on holiday within the UK and NOT be available for work.

just go on holiday, i *know* of *people* who went for 3 days didnt say nudda and it didnt affect them its not like theyr gonna get mi5 and track you down, oh and in future dont ask on threads like these as some people may be try to instigate something, your better off asking a friend whos not so concerned with the law.

You are assuming that you haven't been sanctioned already - you were in employment two days ago so a decision would not have been made to sanction you yet. or did yoiu lie about quitting your job too?

amazing thread, like someone will sanction benefit fraud..

reality, unlikely you will be caught for 1 day, but not technically allowed.
