Selling: Online Estate Agent or Traditional?

It's the same answer that I give, as it is the same question, time and time again on this forum. Yes it does feel like I type the same response but if I can help I will. Isn't that the whole point?
Look how many times people ask on the mortgage forum " should I pay off my mortgage or save money". The response is the same.
Or do you answer the same question with different advice GAH?
Googler, your responses always seem to cause people offence. Have you considered why? Do you think your responses actually add value?
People come onto this site to save money, and I'm not sure that the advice they get is in anyway related to financial efficiency.
Daily people report on this site that they have disputes with high street agents over commission which cause high levels of stress. Pay for your marketing up front and you have no issue.0 -

Webguru, there is advice, and then there is what looks like the blatant promotion of a certain website that you mention everytime.
I actually think online agents, are actually a good thing, they offer consumers choice. Yes Money saving is an important factor but when it comes to potentially selling your biggest ever asset, maybe it is better to spend just that little bit more.
I would still argue that a good high street agent are worth there weight in gold, as they are hungrier to get a sale, if they don't they don't get paid.0 -
Thank you Sailor Sam.
I'm told by the traditional EAs that the commission covers the Marketing. Less Marketing than the online estate agents offer for a fraction of the cost. I think I am leaning the online way, as my property is not one of those grand old places you see in a very local estate agents.
Its a new build in a new development - modern and clean throughout. There are several choices for online agents, still umming & erring!
I'm interested as to why you think a Traditional hgh street EA does less marketing than an Online EA?My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to say

If you're not happy with percentage-based fees, what charging model do you suggest? Flat fee for everyone? Charging by the hour, including for valuations? Something else? Suggestions, please.
Perhaps he would like to see us charging by the hour? By my reckoning the OP would now be looking at a bill of a few hundred pounds for the three valuations he has already has.....that's even before the property has been sold.My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. Miss Motivation do you think that the only marketing you need to sell your property is Rightmove?
Online Estate Agents don't market their propery in local papers. But when did you last look in a paper for a property?0 -

Yes, but there is hungry for a sale and there is hungry for sale. But look at the number of complaints we see on this board over claims for commission which EA's aren't entitled to or really poor service.0 -

No, I believe that at the moment it's bloody hard work to sell a property so just to rely on internet marketing is not giving the Seller the best possible chance of selling.
ETA.....If Newspaper advertising didn't work then EA's wouldn't spend hundreds of pounds a week to advertise in one. But I suppose in your world EVERYONE has acccess to the internet? My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks.
