Santander - weird bunch.

More of a rant. They give me a mortgage then a credit card, but then dont pass the credit search for there Zero current account.

what ae your other outgoings.... cards etc.... the account comes with an overdraft. they must feel you have enough credit at the moment.

They are odd. They opened an account for my son 18 months ago, he has now asked for a student account. No credit problems, excellent credit score.

It appears their internal systems aren't up to doing the switch, after three visits. Despite logging a complaint, in order to escalate issue, the complaints department appear absolutely powerless to intervene and pull any levers to get it sorted. They are very nice about it.

I'm not saying the other Banks would be any better it is just frustrating that there doesn't seem any umph (??).

The Zero current account has other criteria that you MUST meet before you can be approved for it.

You need to use the account switching service (minimum 2 DD's or Standing Orders), pay in £1k per month every month and it MUST be set up on the same database record that your mortgage account is showing under. Your mortgage must also not have been in arrears for more than 2 months in arrears in the last 12.

I doubt you;d be declined for the account based on your credit score if you got a credit card with Santander (as the internal scorecard for a CC is usually a fair bit higher than that of the credit card).
  • I know there are criteria's to be met, which i done so.

Did you ask for an overdraft to be matched with your current bank when you applied? If so, this raises the bar quite dramatically when applying as it's a higher risk when looking to match OD figures.
  • Santander will guarantee any mortgage customer a bank account as long as they are not in arrears on the mortgage and have held it for 3 months.
  • Not got an overdraft nor need 1. I'am guessing the problem would be i've only had my mortgage less the 4 weeks.
