Student grants and benefit?

what will happen to my benefit if I decide not to take the student grants such as Adult dependent grant, maintenance grant and adult learning grant.
As I know so far, the social security would count the maintenance loan even if you don't take it.

  • They will, as far as I'm aware, assess you on any student finance you would be entitled to regardless of whether you take it up or not. I don't know what benefits you are on but the grants you have mentioned add up to substantially more than JSA or Income Support, and if you have children you will still be able to claim Child Tax Credits.

    I think Divastrop is right when she say they're counted whatever and as grants are not repayable I don't see why you'd not take them out and expect to receive social security benefits instead.
