WTC/CTC and confirmation of award

Long story short:

Split with husband mid-June
Contacted HMRC mid-July to apply for WTC/CTC
After a couple of follow-up calls to them I found out last week that my award was almost £100/week below their estimate
Was given a 3 month backdated award but I was honest and told them the date wasn't correct so the backdated will be forward-dated and deducted from future payments (I think)

Now for the bit I'm not sure about. I was told I'd be getting my weekly payment on Sept 2nd of £65. The money has hit my account and it's over £150. The thing is I haven't had anything in writing from HMRC. I don't know if I'm due an extra back payment to take into account the incorrect award I was given or if it's been added into my weekly payment. I don't know how long I'm paying back the overpayment and to top it all off, the Ex has had the phoneline cut off so I can't call HMRC to find out.

Should I be expecting something in writing to confirm what has happened or is everything just taken at face value and I have to work off the payments going into my account?

TIA

I'm really sorry to bump this but I could do with an answer if anyone knows.

Should I be expecting something out in writing from HMRC? I won't have a landline phone for another 12 days and calling them from a mobile would be too expensive. I'm half expecting my ex-husband to kick me out of the house any day now (already been taken to court for contact order, stopped paying bills, cut off the phone so next is the roof over mine & the kids head).

I'm really trying to budget for the coming weeks especially now I have legal fees to take into account. My nest egg was going to be used to pay a deposit on a new house and furnish it so because I have this money I can't get Legal Aid so now I'm spending my inheritence on a solicitor and can't find a way to save my money from being eaten up by the legal system. I'm going to be losing my WTC as well once I go onto additional maternity leave and I don't know what's going to happen if I get an eviction notice i.e. do I rent somewhere first then apply for housing benefit, can a landlord do anything if I rent without HB then get moved onto HB?

You always get a printed statement showing your figures, their calculations of what you are due and how they are going to pay this

Thank you. I guess it's just taking a while then. It's the differing payments and back/forward dated payments that concern me as I don't want to be caught out later down the line.
  • Hi There,

im sorry i cant help with your problem, but thought this might help... it is a local rate number for the HMRC... its the one i always use... and usually gets you through quicker than the 0845 number too.

    0191 206 1385

if you have a look at the website 'saynoto0870' they have a lot of alternate number to 0845 or 0870 numbers... xx
