Home insurance cancelled by insurer

FOS = Atleast 6 months to review. Probably between 12-24 months before any decision.

I always prefer referral to the CEO or senior exec. My experience from working within Insurance and dealing with some CEO complaints, is that they tend to look at them slightly differently. I was often surprised that a CEO would look to side with the customer if there was scope to do this, rather than let a complaint drag on through the FOS. But each case is on its own merits. I don't know whats happened with the OP's case. The claims process they have been through appears to be rather detached, with letters not being received and the Insurers becoming suspicious of a fraudulent claim. I would want to know exactly what communications there had been.
Thanks Huckster, good to know and I'm glad I asked. Can an adviser refer to the CEO on their client's behalf or in your experience, is it best coming from them?

Complaint is always better from the policyholder, but it can be enclosed with a letter from a third party e.g. solicitor, MP or other looking to assist the policyholder with their complaint.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
  • When I say that I have complained I have phoned RSA and explained the situation to them. I have yet to put anything in writing. Looks like this will be the best option to follow.

I have tried to get cover elsewhere and the only company that will quote for me now are Home Protect. They are a lot more expensive. Problem is that once the policy finishes on 13 Sep then I need insurance cover for my property.

Does anyone know if I would have to inform my car insurance company and life insurance company of a cancelled policy?

Only if they ask a specific question along the lines of "have you ever had any insurance policy cancelled by the insurer?"

Car, life insurance would usually be considered separately to your home insurance. But if in doubt you should inform any other insurers.

But I think you need to get this resolved. You will have endless problems getting reasonably priced insurance elsewhere unless you get to the bottom of it. Have you had other recent claims (within the last 3 years) that might have caused the cancellation?

Did you lose both rings or were they stolen? Theft claims normally have a worse affect on policies.

Many people report incidents to their insurers and decide not to continue with the claim for various reasons, and while it will still be registered against your policy, I can't see why it would cause the policy to be cancelled unless it brought it above their acceptable thresholds for claims / accidents / losses.

    Hope you get it sorted.

Just to add that it doesn't always take this long with the Financial Ombudsman. I lost my ring in the March 2010 whilst on holiday, contacted the insurer who refused to pay, then contacted the FOS who said I had to give them another 6 weeks, nothing happened then the FOS took my case on and shortly after the insurance company settled my claim. Probably no more than 4 months.
